SEA freight benefits

Why choose sea freight services?

For anyone sending cargo internationally, it is well known that ocean freight shipping is an option that offers shippers transportation services at an economical price point. As one of the oldest options for freight transportation, it’s also one of the most available since oceans and waterways cover most of our planet. In fact, more than 90 percent of the goods transported in the world are carried by the international shipping industry. But with alternative options, such as air, road and rail transportation, why should a shipper consider ocean transport?

1

Economical

Hands down, the ocean shipping industry offers the most competitive freight costs to shippers, especially over long distances.

By comparison, some estimates show that ocean freight shipping costs are generally four to six times less expensive than air. With statistics like this one, it is easy to argue that ocean transportation is the cheapest international shipping option.

2

Efficient

No matter the size of your shipments, sea freight companies can usually accommodate your needs.

Smaller shipments can be grouped together with other cargo to fill a container, allowing for cost-sharing of transportation services. Larger cargo can fill one or more containers, offering shippers unmatched bulk options. In fact, vessels are the ideal way to move high volumes of cargo as they are designed to carry large amounts of goods or raw materials.

3

Oversized, heavy and bulky cargo capability

A major advantage of sea freight shipping is shipping companies’ ability to handle oversized, heavy, or bulky cargo – often referred to as breakbulk or Not in Trailer (NIT) loads.

Such cargo could include large vehicles, equipment, construction materials, and more. Oftentimes too heavy or large for air freight or even over-the-road transportation, very large cargo is not a problem on many shipping vessels.

4

Safe

Ships are designed to carry hazardous materials and dangerous cargo safely. The industry is well-versed in the handling of such goods and has regulations in place to ensure the safety of the vessel, crew, cargo and environment.

Cargo loss caused by incidents during transportation is continually dropping as maritime safety increases and has dropped significantly in the past decade. Containers are designed to be sealed and locked during transportation for extra security.

5

Environment friendly

When compared to sea shipping, air and many other forms of transportation have much higher carbon footprints – a definite disadvantage for the environment.
Ships, on the other hand, provide the most carbon-efficient mode of transportation and produce fewer grams of exhaust gas emissions for each ton of cargo transported than any other shipment method.

These already-low emissions continue to trend downward as technology advances, new ships come online, and as liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered options are utilized

Frequently asked questions

The job of a Freight Forwarder is to simplify the shipping process. As a Freight Forwarder, we have contracts with steamship lines, airlines, and trucking companies worldwide, which allows us to offer you competitive pricing.

As a Freight Forwarder, we educate and guide our customers through the often complex and ever-changing import and export regulations and process. Most importantly, you communicate only with us as your Freight Forwarder representative rather than several parties.

For many small to medium-sized businesses, the Freight Forwarder acts like a shipping department caring for the company’s logistics needs.

Contact us with the details of your shipment to help us determine the size/volume and weight of your shipment. Details should include Length, Width, Height, and Weight of your shipment. For vehicles or machinery, please provide the make and model and any other detail that is important to the estimate. We will send you a quotation and we recommend that you compare it with other forwarders. Keep in mind that all costs are taken into account when comparing. Once an agreement is made, we can work out further details, including pick-up dates and required documentation.

Transit times vary from origin to destination by distance, routing, and congestion.

  • Air freight: Transit time is calculated once the flight leaves and due to arrive
  • Sea freight: Transit time is calculated once the container is on board the vessel and confirmed departed.

Arrival times will vary which is why the shipping lines use the terminology “ETA” Estimated Time of Arrival

Note: Quoted transit times do not take into account delays that may occur due to poor weather conditions, customs processing and/or examination. Consolidated cargo will take longer considering earlier cut-off times to allow for the documentation and loading process.

Door-to-door delivery is a full service where we arrange to pick up the shipment from its location of origin to its destination, right to the specified address. This commonly refers to the freight charges. Charges on top of door-to-door can be exempt from offloading, customs, and port charges

We provide:

  • Free Consultation
  • Free Estimates
  • Assistance with dangerous good movements and restrictions
  • Consulting on the best mode of transport for your shipment depending
    on budget or time
  • Warehouse and Storage Service if you need to store goods here before
    shipping
  • Pick-Up Services, Crating, and Pick-and-Pack services for commercial
    clients.

Deciding which method of freight transportation to ship your goods is key to ensuring an economical and successful operation. The best method for you will depend on the time frame, destination, and location. A small shipment that is needed urgently would be best delivered via Air freight. But if your goods have a longer window of time to arrive and are larger in quantity then Sea freight would be the most cost-effective.

FCL, or full container load, and LCL, or less-Than a Container load, are two ways in which goods can be transported with sea freight container shipping.

FCL Packing involves paying for an entire container and dedicating all the space inside to your shipment of goods. FCL offers flexibility and a high frequency of sailings, but you must be able to pay for an accommodate the full container. Alternatively, LCL see the freight forwarder combining your suppliers’ goods with others doing the same thing, with multiple shipments sharing the space of containers to fill them up.

Comprehensive Logistics ships across the world, allowing you to benefit from our established connections that allow a seamless and stress-free freight forwarding process.

The cost of your freight shipment will depend on the origin country, country of destination, how much the shipment weighs, and how quickly you want to transport it, the best way to get a cost is to contact us for a free, no-obligation quote.
